Additional IWT Programs

Health and Wellness Program
Through this program, a physician and nurse visit Maria Shelter each week to provide medical care to our women and children. Among the services they offer are pre-natal and newborn care, as well as the detection and treatment of diabetes, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, and substance abuse. Members of the Vincennes Senior Center also benefit through onsite blood pressure and diabetes screenings as well as health-related and exercise classes.

Healing Ministry
IWT offers a healing ministry to residents of Maria Shelter and members of the Vincennes Senior Center through music and art therapy sessions. Harmony, Hope and Healing, a creative music program for the homeless and underserved in the Chicago area, directs a choir of our women, children, and seniors, which perform each year during the holidays. Piano lessons are a new addition and students include a 90-year-old woman as well as several grade school children. Our art program has also been highly successful with works of several of our seniors displayed at the U.S. Capitol building in 2004.

Clothing Room
IWT sponsors a clothing room free to members of the community. Volunteers from the Vincennes Senior Center organize and operate the clothing room, which is kept stocked through generous donations.
