Community Outreach

Over the years IWT's site in Englewood has developed as a hub for services and a beacon of hope in an area struggling to overcome decades of poverty. According to the 2000 census, nearly 40 percent of Englewood residents live in poverty and 33 percent are unemployed. Some redevelopment is currently underway in the neighborhood.

Health Fair
IWT, in partnership with St. Xavier University, hosted a Health Fair this past summer. On August 7, several groups and programs came together in the Vincennes Senior Center to provide health information and screenings to the neighborhood's residents. Children received school physicals and immunizations as well as screening for lead poisoning. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and HIV screenings were given to the adults. The Harris YWCA provided information on sexual assault prevention and information on services for sexual assault survivors. A former resident of Maria Shelter helped register voters.
